Find your domain name

A domain is the one part of your online presence you keep for as long as you pay for it. Hosts change, sites get rebuilt, social platforms come and go — the address stays. That makes it worth ten minutes of thought rather than registering the first thing that is free.

Short and sayable beats clever. If you cannot read it down the phone without spelling it, it is too complicated. Avoid hyphens and numbers for the same reason: people mishear them and end up somewhere else. Where you can, match the name people already use for you — searching for your business name should land on your site, not on a directory listing.

Check the name is not already a registered trademark in your industry before you build a brand on it. Registering a domain does not give you rights to a name someone else owns, and discovering that after printing business cards is an expensive lesson.

.com is still what people type by default, so take it if it is available. If it is not, a country extension such as .com.bd is a strong second — it signals clearly where you operate and often ranks well for local searches.

Newer extensions like .io, .dev and .store are widely understood in their niches and worth considering when they say something about what you do. Search engines do not rank one extension above another; what matters is whether visitors trust and remember it.

Many businesses register two or three variants — the .com plus their country extension — and redirect the spares to the main site. At a few dollars a year it is cheap protection against someone else taking the near-match later.
